Our Model
The Umuryango Children’s Network (Umuryango) is an innovative nonprofit organization–built on the core values of accountability, service and Christian love–that attacks systemic poverty in street children by placing them in a nurturing Christian entourage. Umuryango sets itself apart from the landscape of organizations helping Rwandan street children by offering a distinctive, integrated, holistic approach to solve the problems that face the Rwandan Mayibobos (abandoned, street children). This landscape is dominated, to the best of our current knowledge, by either foreign NGOs applying semi-standardized models not entirely suited to the unique situation in Rwanda, or by local programs that fall short in the retention and reintegration of the mayibobo into the community.
