We have just returned from our 3rd trip to volunteer at Bright Future Academy. This year we taught games and dance for a few days at the summer English Camp. Two young women from Florida were there for the entire camp. They taught the teachers recreational activities to encourage the students to speak and listen to English. We always find the students a joy to work with!
One thing we were very excited about was the progress being made on the construction of the secondary school! The basement level you see in the video below will be in one half of the school since it is built into a hillside. This foundation was dug, BY HAND, meters down into the ground. I asked why they hadn’t used heavy equipment and Jean Paul gave me two reasons: 1). The noise from the equipment would have very much disturbed the students and teachers during the school year, making teaching impossible and 2). It provided much needed jobs for 100+ workers.
We saw cement is being carried on the heads of a parade of women from the mixing site down to the trenches. It will take up to 2 years to complete the whole building. The first P6 graduates from Bright Future Academy, will unfortunately have to attend other secondary schools for the upcoming school year.
The construction has begun and by God’s grace in raising the remaining funds, the school will continue to provide construction jobs and Bright Future Academy will continue to provide a quality education to the students in Rwanda as well as help the Umuryango children. We pray that God opens your heart to donating to the completion of the school in whatever way you feel led.
